Section 16
Maternity leave

(1) If a female working journalist is pregnant, she can take sixty days maternity leave before or after delivery.
(2) According to sub-rule (1), female working journalists who have taken maternity leave can take maternity leave for an additional six months if they wish.
(3) According to sub-rule (2), if a female working journalist is on leave, such period shall be added to her employment period.
(4) If the wife of a male working journalist is about to give birth, such an employee will be allowed to take fifteen days of maternity leave before or after the delivery.

(6) According to this rule, working journalists who are on leave will get full salary. But according to sub-rule (2), working journalists who are on leave will not get salary for that period.
(7) A working journalist will receive a lump sum child care allowance of five thousand rupees per person for a maximum of two children from the relevant media establishment for the purpose of child care. But if both the husband and wife of a working journalist are working in the same communication establishment, the male working journalist will not get such allowance.
(8) A working journalist who takes leave as per sub-rule (4) shall submit the child's birth registration certificate to the communication establishment where he/she works within three months and if the birth registration certificate is not submitted, the period of leave taken for maternity care will be deducted from other leave.
(9) The record of leave according to this rule shall be kept up-to-date by the relevant communication establishment.
